About Jack
Jack was born and raised in small-town Texas. They earned a BA from from the University of Texas at Austin and sold books in Atlanta before returning to Texas in the early 2000s to pursue an MFA in Creative Writing from Texas State University in San Marcos. After teaching high school and college-level English for almost two decades, Jack now works in green science and tech marketing at JDI, Inc. in Austin, Texas.
Jack has served as a teacher, writer, and editor - all experiences that guide their creative collaborations with clients and colleagues. They have worked with companies across a number of industries providing meaningful thought leadership, messaging and positioning, media relations, and content development for clients.
Jack is the author of the short story collection Tomorrow or Forever (Transgress Press, 2018). Their work has been published in American Short Fiction, A cappella Zoo, Heavy Feather Review, Barrelhouse, and Off the Rocks, among other journals.
Jack is a 2022 Lambda Literary Fellow, and one-fifth of the queer Americana band Brand New Key. In the past few years, they have served as Fiction Editor for Gertrude Press, and Board Secretary for Austin Bat Cave. November through May, you can find Jack hiking the trails around Austin with their dog, James. All the other months, you will find Jack in the AC, reading horror and watching serial crime dramas.
Jack is white, trans, feminist, nonbinary, queer, and committed to racial, gender, and disability justice organization + activism.
